The look

Built from the colour language of the Greek epic

Ithaca is a study in three colours that have defined the epic on screen for decades: the cold blue of sea mist and morning fog, the warm gold of firelight and low sun, and the single crimson accent that pulls a figure out of a crowd.

Every look in the pack was built by sampling real reference frames rather than stacking curve presets. The shadows carry a deliberate steel blue, the highlights roll off warm and soft instead of clipping, and saturation is pulled back globally while warm tones are protected so skin stays alive rather than going grey.

The tone curve underneath all ten looks is modelled on large format film. Highlights bend into a soft shoulder rather than clipping to white, shadows sit on a gentle toe instead of a hard black, and colour desaturates as it approaches the top of the range. This is the tonal response of 65mm and 70mm negative, the format the modern epic is still shot on, and it is a large part of why those frames read as expensive before anyone has graded them.

Made for faces

Heavily stylised grades usually fall apart the moment someone walks into frame. Ithaca keeps a warmth mask on every look, so the colour cast lands on the environment while skin tones hold their natural saturation.

Made to be dialled back

Each look is built at full strength on purpose. Drop the opacity or the mix to somewhere between 60 and 75 percent and you have a subtle house grade. Leave it at 100 and you have a trailer.

The index

Ten looks, grouped by temperature

Every look ships twice: once for standard Rec.709 footage and once as a Log to Rec.709 conversion with the transform baked in.

Ember

Firelight, low sun, warm practicals

Ember Triad

Crushed blue black shadows against orange mids and gold highlights. The most aggressive look in the pack, built for fire and torchlight.

Crimson Forge

Warm forward and red heavy through the mids. Best on wide shots and environments where the whole frame can take the heat.

Gilded Smoke

Teal shadows under a strong gold highlight bloom. Wants a warm source somewhere in frame for the bloom to catch on.

Smoke

Haze, diffusion, overcast exteriors

Ithaca Bronze

The signature look. Steel blue shadows, bone white highlights and muted skin that keeps its warmth. The most neutral starting point here.

Smoke and Steel

A muted triad with lifted blacks and low contrast. The everyday grade of the set, and the one that survives mixed lighting best.

Ash Veil

Milky lifted blacks and a grey green cast through the mids. Models atmosphere itself, so it needs real haze or diffusion to sit well.

Silver Mist

Cold fog at very low contrast and low saturation. The softest look in the pack and the closest thing here to a monochrome.

Iron

Night exteriors, low key, cold interiors

Aegean Night

Deep, cool and contrasty with restrained gold. Built for night exteriors, and it genuinely crushes, so check your shadow detail.

Cold Iron

Hard steel contrast with strong blue in the shadows and cool highlights. Enough structure to carry a wide, and the most versatile cold look.

Crimson Sentinel

The coldest base in the set, with true crimson boosted back up so a single red element carries the frame. Skin is excluded from the boost.

In motion

Every look, on real footage

The Rec.709 versions go on footage that is already in standard colour. The Log to Rec.709 versions have the conversion baked in, so they go straight onto flat footage with nothing in front of them. Do not stack them on top of a camera manufacturer conversion LUT.

Works with your editor

The .cube format is read natively by Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Avid Media Composer, Vegas Pro and most other colour tools.

Works with your camera

Ithaca is camera agnostic. It has been checked against footage from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Blackmagic, Nikon, Fujifilm, DJI and iPhone.

The log versions are built around a standard log encoding with 18 percent grey landing at 42 IRE. On other log formats you may want a small exposure adjustment before the LUT rather than after it.

Questions

Before you buy

What look is Ithaca based on?

Ithaca draws on the colour language of the Greek epic as it appears on screen: bronze armour against overcast sky, sea mist over water, firelight in smoke, and the single red accent in an otherwise desaturated frame. It is an original grade built from reference sampling rather than a copy of any one source.

Does this emulate a film stock?

It emulates the tonal response of large format negative rather than a specific stock. That means the highlight shoulder, the shadow toe and the way saturation falls away in the brightest tones, all of which are things a colour transform can genuinely reproduce. Grain, halation and gate weave are separate effects and are not part of a LUT, so add those with your own tools if you want the full film treatment.

Which look should I start with?

Ithaca Bronze is the most neutral and the best first try on almost anything. If your footage has fire, sunset or warm practicals, go to Ember. If it is fog, overcast or diffused, go to Smoke. For night exteriors and cold interiors, go to Iron.

I shoot in a flat or log profile. Which files do I use?

Use the Log to Rec.709 versions. They include the full conversion, so you do not need a separate correction LUT in front of them. If you shoot in a standard picture profile, use the Rec.709 versions instead.

Can I use these on paid client work?

Yes. Your licence covers unlimited personal and commercial projects, including paid client work, with no cap on audience, run length or revenue. The finished work is entirely yours. The only restriction is that the LUT files themselves may not be shared, resold or bundled into another product.

Are the looks adjustable?

Yes. Every editor lets you set LUT strength, opacity or mix. All ten looks are built at full strength deliberately, so there is room to pull back. Somewhere around 60 to 75 percent is a good starting point for narrative work.

Do I need any particular software or hardware?

No. There is nothing to install and no plugin required. These are standard .cube files that load directly into your existing editor.
