Common Issues
Running into a problem? These are the issues we see most often — and how to fix them.
This means you are running an out of date version of Final Cut Pro — or at least a version older than our plugins. We recommend always running the latest version to guarantee compatibility.
Apple releases updates for Final Cut Pro several times a year and it's not always obvious when they do, so it's easy to be on an old version without realising.

Mac too old to update? Use our FCP Backdater app — a desktop app that forces compatibility between newer plugins and older versions of Final Cut Pro.
Normally Final Cut Pro creates the plugin folders automatically, but sometimes it doesn't. Not to worry — it's very easy to create them yourself. Just make sure:
- All folder names are spelled correctly: Titles, Effects, Transitions, Generators and Compositions
- Each folder name starts with a capital letter (e.g. "Effects")
- Each folder has the .localized extension — including the "Motion Templates" folder itself
This means the plugins haven't been installed in the correct location, or your "Motion Templates" folder isn't set up correctly.
